"Slice of Heaven We could not have been happier with our stay, and we were honestly disappointed to have to leave. The journey was part of the fun as you venture to the property you really get a sense of just how deep in the wilderness you were getting. The drive was quite easy, the instructions provided by The Walkers were spot on and Google maps also worked quite well (follow it all the way until you see the wooden Rocky Mountain Escapes sign, then turn to that instead). Gary gave us a perfect tour of the property including some amazing insight to hikes in the area. We ended up doing a 9.5km down the river towards a nearby mountain and it was stunning. The cabin was extremely comfortable, stunningly clean, and equipped with more amenities than we expected, very good hot water. "Tranquility In The Woods We loved our time here. Beautiful wood cabin in the woods that offers you a chance to completely unplug and decompress. We arrived on the later side and let Gary and Julia know. They were there to greet us and help us familiarize ourselves with the cabin. Gary had a fire going and ready for us! It is a lovely space with everything you need to enjoy your time there. Well stocked kitchen. We particularly enjoyed cooking on the griddle outside and enjoying the scenery while doing so. Our host left a bottle of wine, some chips and a welcome letter. We wanted to go fishing and Gary was happy to help us set this up online. Gary and Julia went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We did not want to leave! I would suggest traveling during the day if possible as with all great off the grid places it is more challenging to travel to at night. We treasured our time here and did not want to leave! "It’s a MUST stay location if you love nature. A true ESCAPE location from our busy life. We were so apprehensive to book it initially and after 3 days of stay away from all network connections, we think it would have been a huge miss if we decided not to book it. The atmosphere is very peaceful. There is no noise or sound other than the water running in the stream or birds chirping in the trees. The air is pure and fresh. " I just got back from a quick solo two-night trip at the Escape. We usually try to go for at least three nights but my schedule didn't allow it this time. I had a great relaxing trip and a big thanks to the new owners (Julia and Gary) for making some nice improvements (no more smelly water!) and for maintaining the essence of this very special and unique place in the mountains. We have been going there for over 20 years and always look forward to our annual trip (sometimes more than once a year). The cabins are spectacular - very large and beautifully made and just an amazing place to stay. As per most trips I spent some time reading on the front deck of the cabin nestled in the forest, some short strolls around the Escape (down to Munn Creek is a must-do) and some longer walks down in the valley. There is no shortage of things to do but I will admit to also just sitting and listening to the wind and admiring the view. The attached photos are from the Rock Creek viewpoint on the far end of Rock Lake (~15 minute walk from the end of the road) and Rock Lake at the eastern end. Bring your canoe or kayak - you can paddle quite far up Rock Creek as per one of the photos of the valley. "We loved our time at the escape. we stayed with our family of five ( 3 boys all under 6). the cabin is more than equipped for a weekend warrior. cooking on the propane flat top was awesome, don't forget the bacon and pancakes!! the propane powered fridge was ample and slightly bigger than a typical mini fridge. the hot water is plentiful ! The cabin offers large windows, plenty of wood to burn on what looked like a new wood stove, very comfortable bed and sofa bed, large deck for hanging out.. the list keeps going on.. "I can honestly say that this was one of the most peaceful, relaxing, calming places I have been too. It was definitely worth the drive which itself, is not like anywhere I have been! No cell, no TV, just nature, beauty and quiet. You don't get to fall asleep to the crackle of the fire and wake up to the birds with no other sounds many other places. We had every type of weather in the 2 days we were there. Sun with no coat sitting on the deck and then 2 minutes later a beautiful snow fall and 2 minutes later beautiful sun again and it would all start to melt. The owners, Gary and Julia are very thoughtful and put a lot of work into having this amazing escape. They left a little note and a bottle of wine which gives it that little extra special touch that makes you feel even more welcome. "Remote Cabin Excursion. Our visit was on the Easter long weekend. Fresh snow fall on the way in, and t shirt weather the next day on the patio. Away from everything but nature. HOT running water. Nice full size shower. Excellent wood burning furnace. Clean, Fresh mountain water, from the tap. Beautiful patio. Sweet, outdoor griddle. True Surround Sound, crystal clear, natural silence, and 360° panoramic mountain and forest visuals. The Cabin is so cozy, it makes you, want poor weather outside, so you can stay indoors, and enjoy the complementary wine and chips/crisps provided. The second day, I was so relaxed, I had are hard time distancing myself from the comfy queen bed and the perfectly placed wood heater. Location is remote, so bring your bush smarts, and your appreciation for nature. On the way in we seen a few deer. On the way out however, we seen a smaller Brown Bear on the road. It quickly scrambled up the slope and disappeared into the forest. There was also Elk sign near the Cabins, close to the frozen creek, and was pleased to meet the resident Gray Jays/"Robber Jays/Whiskey Jacks". Which you can read all about in the "Birds of Alberta" book, provided for your researching pleasure. And the lovely owners? Well they are both absolutely delightful.
